Summer Beats 🎧🌞🥀

My Top 6 Favorite Songs: Summer 2017.

Take a look at what I’ve been listening to lately. A link to each song [plus some bonus links] is provided below. Enjoy listening!

Esquina: Baby Bash

[side note: yes, the featured image of this post depicts my eyes (top) positioned atop Baby Bash’s (bottom).]

Baby Bash is a popular Mexican rapper, most known in the mainstream music world for his songs Suga Suga: feat Frankie J and Cyclone: feat T. Pain and Baby, I’m Back: feat Akon.

It’s a dope song featuring Latinx/Mexican-influenced discourse and melodies.

He was a member of Dope House Records, an up-and-coming record label which lost its credibility after SPM (owner) was incarcerated in 2002. Yeah, it’s been a while since this label’s artists got the attention it deserves. Baby Bash and the other label members take pride in representing their Mexican heritage, which they successfully capitalize on.

Summer Nights: Lil Rob

Lil Rob is a Mexican rapper from Oxnard, CA. He is associated with SPM, Baby Bash, and other popular Mexican rap artists. Whenever this song starts to play i turn up the volume in my car. It’s the perfect song to listen to while chilling at the beach this summer.

Notable lyrics:

“Keep the top on drop all the girls looking hot hit the [volo] and we just don’t stop.”

Regulate (Jammin’ Remix): Warren G

I used to work at an Adidas retail store, where Warren G frequents the store when he’s to perform in the Orange County area. Since then, I’ve continued listening to his music and love his Santa Ana shoutout in This DJ and this is my absolute favorite version of Regulate.

Notable lyrics:

“I keep forgettin we’re not in love anymore/I keep forgettin things will never be the same again/I keep forgettin how you made that so clear/I keep forgettin.”

Sunshine: Lil Flip feat. Lea

Lea’s voice is reminiscent of Aaliyah’s, which is part of the reason i like the song so much. Its happy, summery vibes are dope on this track.

Westcoast California: C-Bo

Should you listen to C-Bo’s music? It’s a must! Sacramento native C-Bo created a classic track on his album West Side Ryders Ii.

Notable lyrics:

“Ain’t no sunshine when it rains/And it’s a shame/Cause i still be bangin/Gun slangin/In West Coast California”

High Everyday (Screwed): SPM

SPM has released music from prison several times, and I recently heard he will be releasing music in 2017. Fingers crossed!

The Screwed version in my opinion is a million times better than the original.

BONUS:

Beach in Hawaii: Ziggy Marley

This record boasts beachy vibes.

If you like the songs I suggested, let me know. Maybe I’ll start posting music blogs more frequently. Thanks for taking a read! 😇

Love,

Abbie Leigh 🐰🖤
