Laguna Beach, CA: Today’s Summer Vacation Destination

On the drive down the 133 headed toward Laguna yesterday afternoon, my friend Jamie lamented, “i hope the June gloom will escape us today, i can’t spend another day at a cloudy beach”. Since the beginning ofย my summer break, which started in May, the entire inland of California has been generally sunny, but right when you drive up to the coast, clouds frequently blanket the sky. Since it is officially summer now [June 21st is the first day of summer], the hot California sun has burned its way through the cloudy layers which are typically suspended in the atmosphere.

No June gloom today, how about that?? ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ’๐Ÿผ

We parked in a hilly neighborhood and made our way down to Pearl Street in Laguna Beach, where we walked down a staircase that led to the sand. This particular area of Laguna is quite quaint, with a relatively small strip of sand separating the ocean from the cliffs which it backs up to. Constructed toward the edges of these cliffs are massive beach homes, most of which have winding staircases leading directly down to the beach. I’ve always found them so special and dream to one day have a similar view out my bedroom window.

We swam in the ocean for a while and laid down on our towels in the warm, golden sand eating salty whole grain tortilla chips and listening to music off of a speaker i brought along. After some time, my friend Deniz suggested we go on a walk all the way to Laguna’s popular Main beach, so we asked some fellow beach goers to keep an eye on our belongings and off we went. We walked back up the stairs on Pearl street and hurried over to another staircase a few hundred meters away that gave us access to the Main beach area. After our little hike, we walked back to our stuff and i dipped in the ocean one last time.

Afterward, we drove about a mile down the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) to eat dinner at Urth Cafe, an incredibly social media-popular restaurant, known quite well for their matcha green tea blended boba drinks. Finally, our day at Laguna had come to an end, and we drove back home. What a great way to spend such a beautiful summer day!

Below I’ve included some of my favorite pictures i took throughout the day.

What are you going to do this summer? Do you have any exciting vacation or local plans like me to look forward to? Let me know, i’d love to hear from you!

Love,
