Poems: Rupi Kaur

Hi everyone, I’ve finally decided to start tending to my blog more often. This WordPress page provides me with an amazing little platform to share what’s on my mind with like-minded artists who appreciate the same things that I do. It has also introduced me to the work of some fabulous bloggers. If you see anything you like here on my page, let me know in the comments. I’d be more than happy to take a peek at your page too.

This past semester at Chapman University, I took a class focused on writing about poetry. For the final presentation, we were instructed to find a piece of contemporary poetry and share it with the class in a group presentation. My partners chose a poem written by Rupi Kaur, also known as Instagram’s favorite poet. The poem belongs to the second book that she’s published which is titled “the sun and her flowers.”

Before I share a few of my favorite poems from “the sun and her flowers,” I’ll share some information about the author. Rupi was born in India then her family moved to Canada when she was young. An interesting fun fact about her writing style is that she writes exclusively in lowercase and only uses periods in her poems, no other punctuation marks. This is because in Gurmukhi script, which is her culture’s language, there is no upper case and the only punctuation mark is the period.

What do you think about her poetry? Who’s your favorite poet? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for taking a read!

Love,

Abbie Leigh 🐰🖤
